In brief
Motion Guard is an Android motion-triggered video recording app. It does not require an account. Camera frames are analyzed on your device while monitoring is active, and video clips are saved locally when motion is detected. Audio recording is optional and off by default. The app does not transmit recordings or other app data to the developer, and its current implementation does not include advertising or analytics services.
Camera and motion detection
When you start monitoring, the app uses the device's back camera to analyze image frames on-device for motion. This analysis continues while monitoring is active, including while waiting for motion. The app does not save those analysis frames as video. When motion is detected, it starts recording a video clip; recording continues while motion is detected and for a short period afterward. Monitoring runs as a foreground service with an Android notification, and you can stop it from the app.
Audio
Audio recording is an optional setting and is off by default. If you turn it on and grant microphone permission, audio is recorded with motion-triggered video clips. If you leave it off or deny microphone permission, clips are recorded without audio. You can change this setting in the app.
Recordings and app settings
Video clips are stored on your device in the shared Movies/Surveillance media
folder and may be visible to other apps that can access your media, such as gallery or video
player apps. Recordings are not uploaded by Motion Guard. The app stores settings on the
device, including motion sensitivity, clip duration, video quality, audio preference,
minimum battery level, and the recording storage limit.
You can open or delete clips in the app or manage them through your device's media or gallery app. The app may automatically delete older clips to free storage or enforce the storage limit you set. Because clips are saved in shared device storage, uninstalling the app may not delete them; check the device's gallery or media folder if you want to remove remaining recordings.
Permissions and third-party services
The app requests camera permission for motion monitoring and video recording. It requests microphone permission only if you enable audio recording. It may request notification permission so Android can show the foreground monitoring notification, and storage permission on older Android versions to save or manage recordings. It does not request location, contacts, or SMS permissions.
The current app implementation has no internet permission and does not include advertising or analytics SDKs. It does not send video, audio, motion analysis, or settings to a developer-operated server. Android and other apps you use to access your recordings are governed by their own terms and privacy practices.
Retention and backup
Recordings remain on the device until you delete them or they are removed to free storage or enforce the configured recording limit. App settings can be removed by clearing the app's data or uninstalling it. Android backup behavior depends on your device and backup settings; media in shared storage may be managed separately by Android or your gallery provider.
Responsible use
You are responsible for using the app in compliance with applicable laws and respecting the privacy and consent rights of people who may be recorded. Check local requirements before monitoring or recording in any place.
